Kelly McCabe – Head Coach
Coach Kelly started coaching rec swimming in 2000 with the Gehringer Gators where she coached for 5 years and then Valley Vista in 2005. Kelly then moved on to coaching the Dana Hills Swim Team, but her career in swimming goes way beyond that! Kelly started swimming when she was 4 and competed on the Gehringer Gators until she was 18. She went to Ygnacio Valley High School where she swam, played water polo and basketball. She was able to compete in the NCS Championships and place in the top 10 in the 100 yd. breaststroke, 50 yd. freestyle, and was part of both 200 yd free and medley Relays. She continued her sports career at Diablo Valley College where she was named an All-American water polo player and swimmer. She swam in the State Championship Swim Meet both years and placed in the top 10 in the 100 yd. breaststroke, 50 yd. breaststroke, 100 yd IM and both the 200 yd. free and medley relays and 400yd medley relay. Although her long career as a competitive swimmer has ended, she still enjoys getting in the pool and of course coaching. When Kelly does have free time away from school, she enjoys working out, shopping, reading and spending time with her nephews and friends. She is currently taking classes to pursue her major in Early Childhood Education. She is really excited to be coaching Dana Hills for her 5th year and canÂ’t wait for the season to start! GO OTTERS!
Ashley Jennings
Ashley has been swimming competitively since she was 4 years old. She swam for the Gehringer Gators until the age of 12 and joined the Dana Hills Swim Team when she moved to Clayton. In the summer of 2007, Ashley swam for the Terrapins, but returned to Dana Hills for the summer of 2008, where she received several high point awards and broke 2 records. Last summer she spent many hours at the pool as a swimmer, junior coach and lifeguard. Ashley will be going into her senior year at Clayton Valley High School where she participates on the varsity water polo team and is a captain on the varsity swim team. Outside the pool, Ashley has played piano for over 10 years and enjoys music, reading and snowboarding. This will be her 2nd year as an assistant coach for Dana Hills and she is greatly looking forward to leading the Otters to success in 2010! Go Otters!
Derek Anderson
Derek began swimming for the Dana Hill Otters when he was 10, as a brand new swimmer. He made a county time in the 50 yd. backstroke that year and has gone to the county meet every year since. He also holds many individual and relay team records. Last summer Derek tried junior coaching and had a wonderful time working with the kids. This year, he is excited to be an assistant coach! When Derek is not swimming for Dana Hills, he swims for Clayton Valley. Last year as a sophomore, he placed 7th in the 100 yd. backstroke at the North Coast Section championships. When Derek is not swimming, youÂ’ll find him in the pool playing water polo. He is one of the top rated goalies in our area. He recently broke two 12 year old high school records for most goals blocked in a season and career. He also participates in USA Water PoloÂ’s Olympic Development program. When Derek is not in the pool, he likes to play video games, workout, and hang out with his friends. He is looking forward to helping all kids have a successful year as an otter!
Marisa Marr
Marisa Marr is eighteen years old and is currently a student at the University of Arizona. She is a Pre-Nursing major and wants to be a Neonatal Nurse. Although she decided not to swim in college, her swimming past goes way back. She started swimming at the age of six for Dana Farms. From there she swam at Valley Vista, Heritage Park (in Irvine), and Dana Hills. During high school, Marisa was a year round swimmer and swam for the Terrapins of Concord until last year. Marisa graduated from Carondelet High School in 2009 and swam for CHS all four years. Freshman year, Marisa played basketball and swam. She was MVP for the JV swim team and then spent the next three years on Varsity and was also one of the senior captains for the Cougars as well. Marisa was a Rec County and NCS qualifier during her career of swimming. Although she had to end her swimming career due to injuries, she is thrilled to be able to coach for her favorite team, the Dana Hills Otters! Back in the day, Marisa was a junior coach for Dana Hills. Last summer, she was a Certified Lifeguard and Certified Swim Instructor of the City of Concord Cowell Pool. She is so excited for this amazing season! Go Otters!
